Who knew . . . I would become a bookworm?
I just finished reading The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls. It was an interesting story (true story too according to my co-worker who lives in the same building in Brooklyn as the brother) that was engaging and filled with greater meaning yet the chapters were short which makes for a great subway read. I found myself speed walking to the subway this past week so I could read while waiting for and riding the train and then walking home and reading at the same time.
If you read and enjoyed A Tree Grows in Brooklyn then you should read this book. I actually enjoyed this book more then the Tree but that may be attributed to the fact I went from Harry Potter to A Tree Grows in Brooklyn and may have experienced mild literary whiplash.
What book do you recommend that I read next?

I agree, I loved the Glass Castle!!
Now, didn't reading The Glass Castle make you appreciate your parents more?!?
Read "These is My Words" by Nancy Turner. It's fantastic! And, why did I find out about your blog while browsing a random acquaintance's blog?! Hope to hear from you soon. I think the "Andrew" post below is hilarious!
This is crazy--I just heard about These is My Words from a a friend today and reserved it at the library. It must be a good book! I would also recommend Me & Emma and Tale of a Female Nomad (mom has it) is pretty good too.
I thought your old literary coach gave you a recommendation for your next book?
Great book -- I love memoirs about messed-up families! In the memoir genre, there are many to choose from, but one of my favorites is A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius. I also love Angela's Ashes, but have to warn my mormon friends about some content (consider yourself warned). I have many other recommendations in my library that I am happy to lend.
