Who knew . . . I would be in help of music advice?
Okay, if you know me at all you already know I am clueless when it comes to music. I have no hope when it comes to play name that tune or who sings that song. Even with multiple choice I usually get it wrong. Thanks to over two years of daily use of my iPod and frequent visits to iTunes I am slowly changing my ways and now have a hard time riding more than two stops on the subway without those little white ear buds in my ears. But I still need your help.
4 hours is a long time to be running and I have a hunch that my little pink shuffle is going to be with me when the going gets tough. So I am building up a pretty good play list in preparation for the marathon in a few weeks but I need song recommendations. Right now I have a little bit of everything: pop, alternative, country, oldies, even broadway and a book on tape. It's time to clean it out and get serious about what I am going to need to keep me going.
Any recommendations? Leave a comment and let me know what your favorite running or workout song is. If you don't run or work out let me know what you think you favorite song would be. It should be peppy but not annoying, good lyrics but not repetitive, strong beat but not over powering or headache inducing. After doing a bit of math I figure that I will need close to 80 songs if I am to listen to music the entire time. I won't but it's nice to have options.
Go ahead don't be shy. Let me know what songs you think will help mile 16 or 22 or even 26 fly by. (wow I just rhymed and didn't mean it, any one want a peanut?)

Hey Steph! I am not sure if these are good running songs, but right now I love: Taylor Swift "Love Story," David Archuleta "Touch My Hand," Rihanna "Hate That I Love You," and Julianne Hough "That Song In My Head" from my iPod. I need new songs too though. Good luck!!
Do I need to send you our wakeboarding mix?
I don't have the music advice, but when I "ran" a marathon I had a whole book on my Ipod. Mindless, but fast moving type boxes are the best for me. Good luck with your training and the big day.
Okay,
I have a few suggestions and you can take them or leave them. All I ask, is that when it's my turn to run a half marathon (next year is my goal), then I want YOUR top songs!! :o)
Here goes:
I need a hero: the one from Shrek, LOVE IT. It just has that "Nothin's gonna stop me" feeling.
Eye of the Tiger: A classic get up and go song
Pump It From Black eyed Peas: Fast paced song
Who Needs Sleep by BNL: Good pace, you could time it so it's somewhere in your run where you just need some pace help.
Fergalicious: I know, I know but it's fast and it's all about being a hot girl that all the guys want. When you're running, it HELPS!!
Most of Gwen Stefani's Life, Love, Angel, Music CD.
My Sharona, nuff said
So What from Pink
There it is. Out of all of these, I think I need a Hero is my favorite to run with. I would get close to my last mile or so and it would renew my energy like nothing else. Good luck and have fun. I can't wait to read about it.
I have found that I need a certain tempo and style to motivate me while running and it happens to be angry girl music. Like Kelly Clarkson, Avril Lavine, Some Katy Perry, etc. I have a couple of their songs that I love (like Hot 'n Cold by Katy Perry) so I put that song into Pandora so it would play all kinds of songs in that same genre. I left it on all day and when I heard a song I loved I would write down the name so I could download it. I got tons of great songs that way by lots of different artists. So that's my tip of the day :)
Radiohead - "In Rainbows" Album
Just download the whole thing. This has served me well on many a road trip. Also...
Tom Petty - "Full Moon Fever" Album.
A roadtrip must.
Stephanie,
I prefer Celine Dion (did I really just say that online??? yup!) but since nobody else (except Shawna) likes running to her, I'm not much help to you. Best of luck on your marathon!! You can do it!!
"Cartwheels" - Reindeer Section
anything from Fujiya & Miyagi
Coldplay has great running music
"Don't Stop Believing" - Journey
For endurance type exercises I like Explosions in the Sky (that's a band) they can be a bit slow, but they build up really well. Plus I think they are meditative and it makes me feel good.
