Who knew . . . I am taller than I thought I was?
Last Friday I learned three lessons I will never forget:
- I am taller than I think I am
- I can't crouch down as low as I think I can
- I should always wear a helmet when skiing

A few days of skiing in Utah were "epic". I talked my friend Melissa into meeting up with me and we skied Alta and Park City. We skied all types of terrain and had all types of weather conditions and therefore we had all types of fun. We found a few inches of powder to call our own but mostly it was a nice soft layer on a hard base of ice. So when we found soft powdery snow in the trees at Park City we spent all Saturday afternoon weaving in and out of the trees on two parts of the mountain.
Trees are fun but they are also a little challenging. Okay, a lot challenging but that is what makes them fun. Wearing a helmet is a good idea when ever you are on skis especially when in the trees and thankfully I am living proof of this.
Saturday afternoon on the last run of the day (it's always the last run when you get hurt) the top of my head met up with a fallen tree/log as I tried to ski underneath. I apparently don't really know how tall I am because I thought I could fit and I DIDN'T. Not even close. Here are a few pictures to prove just how wrong I was and how grateful I am that I had a helmet on.
Exhibit A - I thought I could ski under the log behind me if I crouched down low enough, the lower limb, yea that one that is really close to the ground.

Exhibit B: Me trying to stop my brain from spinning around after hitting that fallen tree limb with the top of my head.
Exhibit C: The second I could process what was happening I could hear Melissa laughing histarically and I looked up to see this.

Exhibit D - After my head stopped spinning I went back for further investigation and found out that I would have had to sit down on my skis and then maybe, just maybe I would have fit through. I had to crawl through, there was no way I would have fit.
And to think my daredevil, adrenaline junkie friend Melissa was the one that insisted I wear my helmet when historically I was the one insisting she wore a helmet. That is what friends are for.
My cherry red helmet saved the day! Let that be a lesson to us all . . . always wear your helmet especially in the trees.
