Hat Size

Who knew . . . how to measure someone's head to determine their hat size?

Oh, yea, I did!

Many of you know that I work with a man called Nors. He is one of the Presidents in our division and can be incredibly knowledgeable about the business but he can also be loud, grumpy and opinionated. He is quite the character and brings life and energy to the work place. You may have already heard some Nors stories and know they are quite hilarious - well this one tops them all (and if you think I have stories you should ask Mike - he works with and travels with the guy).

With that in mind, Nors came out of his office today and started asking everyone if they had a tape measure so that he could measure his hat size. I have learned not to ask why but just to play along ( a little like Jim and Pam's responses to Michael Scott on The Office). So I suggest that he finds a piece of string, measures his head with the string and then measure the string with a ruler to determine the circumference of his head. Nors thinks this is a dumb idea and shares his thoughts openly. I ignore him and go back to work. One minute later I look up and he is standing at Mike's desk with Mike's blackberry charger cord wrapped around his head. It was the FUNNIEST thing I have ever witnessed in the office. I started laughing hysterically. I then got up and helped him find a ruler so he could measure the chord. We determined that his head measures 23 and 1/8". He then looked at me and said something to the effect of (and I edit his actual comments to keep this a family friendly blog) "So what? What does that mean? That doesn't tell me my hat size." I suggested he google "hat size" and after Nors and Mike laughed at me for a few minutes they did and guess what they found? That is right, a nifty conversion table that takes the circumference of a person's head and converts it to their hat size.

They continued to ridicule me for the rest of the afternoon saying I didn't know what I was talking about but I was okay with that because I did know what I was talking about AND I was still laughing too hard at the site of Nors measuring his head with an electric chord. If only you could have been there. I love my job and the people I work with. Even now this story brings a smile to my face and makes me start to laugh.

Very funny . . . the equation (from a hat nerd) is circumference divided by pi.

This was HYSTERICAL. I have to say, it was one of the funniest things I've ever witnessed. It makes me appreciate even more that I've been blessed with a fabulous office(cube)- mate and can share these moments! Ohh I love my job :)
