Stuck in my head

Who knew . . . iPods, movies, and hymns have been driving me crazy lately?

This morning I was sitting at my desk at work and could here the faint sound of music playing.  I just figured it was the person in the next office over playing her radio quietly as she is known to do and so I moved along with my day.

This afternoon I left work early (yea for summer Friday hours) and went shopping.  I was in a dressing room and could hear the music playing in the store but also could hear the faint sound of music playing, same sound as what I heard sitting at my desk.  I just figured it must be a mistake or somehow the store's sound system was playing to audio tracks at the same time.

On my way home I was sitting on the subway reading and again I could hear the same faint sound of music playing.

Just now I was sitting at my desk paying bills and catching up on email when I heard the same faint sound of music playing.  Since this was the fourth time today I heard faint music I stopped what I was doing to figure out WHAT WAS GOING ON.  After a minute I realized the my iPod shuffle was in my bag, was not locked, and in the process of getting work was bumped and turned on.  That means I been listening to my iPod all day and didn't even know it.  That is one powerful battery and apparently some loud music for me to hear the ear buds blasting at the bottom of my bag.  I am glad I am not hearing things

However now that we have established I am not hearing nonexistent sounds I would like to address a particular song from a particular movie that annoyingly gets stuck in my head with the slightest mention from anyone.  Have you ever seen the movie Music and Lyrics with Hugh Grant and Drew Barrymore?  Does "Pop goes my heart" ring a bell, bring back memories, cause you to start singing and bopping your head?  Well a friend of mine borrowed the movie over the weekend and kindly texted me some of the lyrics to this song and now I can't get it out of my head.  This song is very very sticky, cheesy but sticky none the less.

Lastly, another musical phenomenon that has occurred over the last few weeks is my new ability to begin humming, whistling, or even singing church hymns at random times with no explanation or reference for why I might have the song running through my brain.  I can't tell you the number of times I have to stop myself from singing out loud when at work, running errands or hanging out at home.  It can be a little tricky explaining to co-workers why you are singing songs about "More Holiness Give Me" or "High On A Mountain Top".

I weird that is what it comes down to.
