Christmas Performances

Who knew . . . why I have been absent from blogging?

It was unintentional but I have been busy with the usual work and church routines and added on Christmas shopping, parties, and shows. This year I set out to cover the full spectrum of Christmas performances. In order of pure entertainment to intellectual enlightenment I have reviewed each show I attended.

Christmas Spectacular: It has been quite a few years since I attended the historic Christmas performance of the rockets at Radio City Music Hall. Let's just say the Rockets I first saw have been retired for MANY years. So this year I decided instead of dreading all the tourists crowding the sidewalks around the theater that I pass by each day that I would join them. My friend Emilie and I joined hundereds of others to see Santa, the rockets, elves, dancing, singing, acting, live sheep and camels, fireworks, confetti, lights, 3D travel on Santa's sleigh and the list goes on and on. The show covered all the elements to qualify as spectacular.

Nutcracker Ballet: I joined my friend Emilie, my new found friend Jill and her friend to enjoy the ballet from the rafters at the New York City Ballet in Lincoln Center. It's not for anyone afraid of heights as we were sitting on 5th level on the edge. A very cool view point. The ballet was beautiful and it was fun to see the performance as it has been a few years.

Handel's Messiah: I attended the Messiah performance at Carnegie Hall and coaxed 8 other friends into joining me for the 2.5 hour performance. It's not for the casual oratorio attendee or the narcoleptic as it is long and relaxing. But I found it quite exciting to watch my friends experience for the first time the performance of a counter tenor (a counter tenor is a man that sings like a woman). Attending the performance is becoming a wonderful tradition that I hope to continue as long as I am living in New York.
