Hotter than you know where!

Who knew . . . the Farmers' Almanac was spot on?

My friend Kathryn informed me in April that she read in the Farmers' Almanac that this summer was supposed to be dreadfully hot and humid in New York. It's now July 27th and I can attest that this is undeniably true.

I have lived in all sorts of places and endured all sorts of climates and storms and weather. THIS SUMMER IS HOTTER THAN HELL. It's the only way I can accurately describe it and I think that little almanac was understating the predicted conditions. I am seriously considering a summer vacation to visit my cousin in Phoenix as a way too cool off until September. It's obviously the humidity that makes it unbearable but add to that the lack of a breeze or the the buildings and cement trapping in the heat or the fact that it's 88degrees on a constant basis and feels like it's 95 and 105 in the subways and it makes it unbareable. For any of my reader living in the South, my hat goes off to you. I don't know how you survive.

So what do you do in the summer time too cool off? I run a half marathon in 95degree temps with 100% humidity. And not only do I run the race but I run a mile and a half before the race too.
I joined 5 friends and we drove out to Queens early in the morning for the race. Even at 6:30am it was hot and sticky. Unfortunately the directions were a bit vague and caused us to be late and park over a mile from the start line. So as the race was starting we were running part of the course in the wrong direction trying to get to the start line. We were all a bit frantic.

Obviously this wasn't a personal record setting race for anyone but everyone accomplished their main goal which was to finish without ending up in the hospital. I finished in 2 hours and 3 minutes which under normal circumstances isn't something I would be pleased with but for running in Hell I think it's quite respectable.
I also got a good laugh out of my race photos. Click here to see the professional photos and notice that the ones I am smiling in are the ones taken at the start line and the ones that I am looking like I am about to die are taken in the middle or at the finish line. And just in case, so I don't get sued for copyright infringement you should really go here to view all the photos and even a video of me crossing the finish line. http://www.brightroom.com/view_user_event_video.asp?EVENTID=61923&BIB=3742&LNSEARCH=1&PWD=

1st get rid of that rat picture!

2nd I don't know which is better the shirtless wesley snipes or saggy sports bra chick.

3rd Did you feel like you were being chased by the paparazzi? I know it's been awhile since I've run a half but I don't remember them taking that many photos (and video!).

Way to go! You're my hero. I'm still amazed at how you can not run for months and then go out and run a bajillion miles like it's no big deal. I did not get those genes!
