I won!

Who knew . . . I would ever win anything from my new found ability to cook dinner?

Today I won a $15 Target gift card because I tried and commented on recipies recently posted on The Daily Bite blog.  If you haven't checked out The Daily Bite then you are missing out and should go there immediately as my friend Sara and her friend Kate are cooking gurus and are kind enough to share the very best they know through this blog.  Trust me I have been fortunate enough to taste Sara's cooking and it is gooood!  If Kate is a friend of Sara's then she is a friend of mine and I am sure her cooking is gooood too.

Last night I served Chipotle Chicken Taco Salad and Brazilian Lemonade to my roommates and their guests and it was a big success.  Here are pictures to prove it.

The picture of The Daily Bite is much more apetizing but this is
proof that I now make something other than turkey sandwiches and soup from a can.

I even stepped it up and made the crispy tortilla strips, yup me and pan of hot oil and no the fire department was not alerted ahead of time but probably should have been.
This is the Brazilian lemonade but we didn't have
another pitcher so this is our make shift punch bowl.  When cooking in an less than equipped
kitchen you are required to use your creative thinking skills.
And this is the mango that we decided would make a nice side
dish and it was the perfect compliment to both the lemonade and the salad.

Well, once that gift card arrives I am off to the Target in the Bronx to spend it on a cutting board, a strainer, and metal tongs.  If there is anything left over maybe a full set of measuring spoons.

Yay! I'm so happy you won. OXO has tongs that are rubber(?) tipped and I would recommend getting those so they don't scratch your nonstick pans--they are on my want list. :)

Nonstick pans . . .what? Yea, wouldn't that be nice. I will look for the tongs in the event I invest in pans one day and still have the tongs. Thanks for the recommendation.

I was so happy to see that you won that! Your dinner looks awesome! Next Whidbey trip, we're switching roles and you'll be the official chef while I work my magic with the pina colodas ;)
