YeeHaw

Who knew . . . 8 seconds was just one criteria for winning a bull riding competition?

My friend Ruth knew.

As I was getting on the bus in NYC heading to DC for Christmas I remember seeing banners near Madison Square Garden for the PBR competition.  I thought it looked like something fun to do and then I got on the bus and forgot all about it.  Weeks later Nors called me in his office and handed me a newspaper article on the PBR and said to me "You know what you need to do this weekend?  Go to the rodeo and get yourself a cowboy".  I laughed and thanked Nors for the suggestion.  And while I didn't go to the rodeo to "get me a cowboy" I did get a bunch of tickets and found a good number of people that wanted to go see a little bull ridding in the heart of NYC.

That is right.  Every year the PBR tours through New York city.  They transform MSG into a rodeo rink complete with dirt and side rails and trucks and horses and bulls and cool pyrotechnics.  It was a really fun event.  I am glad I sat next to Ruth because I learned a lot about bull riding I would have never known before.  I even tried scoring the bull riders and was getting pretty good and guessing really close to the same scores the judges were giving.

Here is the criteria

1) Must stay on for 8 seconds
2) Arm must stay above a certain point during the ride
3) Legs must move up and down with the movement of the bull
4) The type of movement the bull takes during the ride contributes to the number of points.  A more active bull a higher score.

Thanks to Santa I have a new camera so I can take more pictures.  Enjoy!

And a short video of the action.

A rodeo rink? I think they reserve the term rink for ice skating and hockey! Hicks from Montana would refer to it as a rodeo arena! Now you know everything there is to know about rodeos...next is monster trucks.(ask Amy Reed, they're GREAT!)
